FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR A GPSC CAMPAIGN OFFICE UNDERWAY [top]

The November GPSC Meeting Attendees approved a proposal to research the feasibility of opening a Green Party Campaign Office in Sonoma County. Feasibility means projecting a budget and finding an office, most likely in Santa Rosa, that the GPSC can use as a resource center during the upcoming 2008 election cycle, for all its activities, involving issues and candidates, including local, state, and national levels.

If you would like to help with the research and development of this project, please contact tim smith at rioryon_at_aol.com, or call 707-202-4507.

DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR NATIONAL CONVENTION DELEGATES [top]

Interested in becoming a delegate to the Green Party's national nominating convention on July 10-13 in Chicago? If so, you will need to act fast since the candidates must submit their delegates to the Delegate Selection Committee by December 7, and they need your application beforehand so that they can contact you before adding you to their list.

Requirements
Delegates must be Green Party of California (GPCA) members. GPCA members are either registered as Green or "ineligible to vote but have been extended GPCA membership by their county."

To become a delegate to the nominating convention, you need to be either recruited by one of the seven candidates to be on their slate, and/or volunteer with your county to be on the back-up slate that the candidates can choose from if they do not recruit enough on their own. For the candidates recruiting, it is not just a matter of numbers, as the numbers also have a requirement to match several diversity factors. Information will be going out to the counties about seeking folks wanting to attend as nominating delegates. Delegates can be listed on a county slate as well as a candidate slate, but they can't be on more than one candidates' slate. Candidates will not know how many delegates that actually need until 1) we know how many delegates CA is apportioned and 2) what proportion of the vote they get in the February primary.

You will need to provide the following information to the candidate and/or to the Green Party of Sonoma County:

  1. Full name as registered to vote
  2. Phone number
  3. Email address
  4. Mailing address
  5. County of residence
  6. Gender and any minority diversity group of which they are part, in order to aid the selection of a gender-balanced and diverse delegation.

Please reference Section 4 of the following document for the specific procedures regarding the delegate slates:
http://cagreens.org/bylaws/proposals/pres_nom_delegates_ADOPTED.pdf

HOW TO BECOME A DELEGATE FOR RALPH NADER [top]

[From the California Draft Nader Committee]

If you are a Green Party member in California and would like to be a delegate for Ralph Nader to the 2008 Presidential Nominating Convention (July 10-13 in Chicago), please fill out the following form and send it to Tinker Dominguez at tink_at_cruzio.com:

  • full name:
  • phone:
  • email:
  • mailing address:
  • county of residence:
  • gender (to allow gender balance):
  • racial/ethnic group (to allow racial diversity):
  • other under-represented group (LGBT, disabled, etc.):

On December 7, a slate of Nader delegates will be submitted to the GPCA Delegate Selection Committee, who will select delegates from the list in proportion to the percentage won by Ralph Nader in the California Green Party primary on February 5.

If you are uncertain whether you can attend the convention but want to support Ralph if you can, please submit your name with a notation regarding your ability to attend the convention.

You may also want to contact your county organization and ask to be included on your county's delegate slate, as county slates will be a back up for the candidate slates.

HOW TO BECOME A DELEGATE FOR CYNTHIA MCKINNEY [top]

[From John Morton jlm108_at_yahoo.com]

Greens,

Next July the GPUS will hold its National Nominating Convention in Chicago, IL, to choose the Green Nominee for President in the 2008 election. It should be an exciting and dynamic event, at a very crucial time in our country's history.

We expect that the State of California will be allotted a total of some 200 delegates to this Convention. All our Green candidates for President will be looking for CA delegates to vote for them. The deadline to turn in delegate names is December 7th. Cynthia McKinney's Presidential Campaign Committee has asked myself and Sanda Everette to find CA Greens who want to attend the Convention next year and vote for Cynthia as the Green Presidential Nominee. (Cat Woods will be collecting delegates for Ralph Nader, and the other candidates will also be seeking delegates.)

This is a great opportunity for Greens who understand Cynthia's proven championship of Green values, the courage and integrity she displayed during her 6 terms in the US House of Representatives, and her potential to draw the underrepresented, disenfranchised, and disaffected Americans, who represent 50% of the country's eligible voters, into the election process and into the Green Party.

Are you committed to Cynthia as our best choice for the nomination, and willing to go to Chicago next July to support her candidacy?

If so, great! To apply to be a delegate, please reply to this email with the following information. (We will forward all applications to Cynthia who will contact you about the details.)

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your telephone contact
  • Your City and County of residence

In order to abide by GPCA requests for delegation diversity, please also let us know if you belong to any of the following underrepresented groups:

  • Under 35 Years Old?
  • Person of Color?
  • Female?
  • LGBT?
  • Disabled?
  • Other?

Thanks for your commitment to the Green Party, and to the Cynthia McKinney candidacy! See you in Chicago!

GREEN WINS ON ELECTION DAY 2007: EARLY REPORTS [top]

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party leaders are congratulating several candidates who were elected to local office on Election Day, November 6, according to early returns.

137 Greens ran for public office in the 2007 off-year elections, with 89 of them competing on November 6.

Green leaders also congratulated Illinois Greens for meeting the early filing deadline on November 6 for placing presidential, congressional, and other candidates on the ballot for the state's February 5 primary. In 2006, the Green Party won its ballot line in Illinois, overcoming difficult ballot access rules and obstruction efforts by Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who used $800,000 in taxpayers' money trying to block Greens from the ballot. Green gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney drew over 10% in 2006, more than twice Illinois' 5% requirement to maintain ballot access.

According to Phil Huckelberry, chair of the Illinois Green Party's government and elections committee, the party has set a goal of having 100 to 110 state and local candidates on ballots in 2008.

GREEN VICTORIES on November 6 (according to early returns):

CALIFORNIA http://www.cagreens.org

  • Larry Bragman and Lew Tremain were re-elected to the Fairfax City Council. Mr. Bragman finished first with 1,322 votes or 40.74%, and Mr. Tremain finished second with 969 votes or 29.66 %. Mr. Lussier campaigned vigorously among absentee ballot voters, and Greens are optimistic that his victory will be confirmed. http://www.lussierforleg.com
