R - Quarter Cent Sales Tax -- Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit District

A note on bond measures (1B – 1E and 84): Whenever a proposition is funded by a bond, it means some amount of taxpayer money goes into the pockets of the investors who act as middlemen. Paid off over a period of about thirty years, bonds typically cost taxpayers $1.25 for every $1.00 that actually goes to fund the approved proposition. Greens advocate less wasteful means of financing large capital costs for state and local government.

Note on Proposition 86: While it is clear that the harmful effects of cigarette smoking are to be avoided and that taxing the user of cigarettes to help fund medical services represents an apparently fair way to penalize those who use, it does not get at the root cause – the tobacco companies who sell the products. Greens feel that although this measure will cause some to quit smoking, it will do little to affect the tobacco companies who are responsible for the problem.

To Sonoma Residents: I am currently serving on the Planning Commission and am on the board of the Sonoma Ecology Center. I am past president of the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation. I am committed to protecting our environment and preserving the urban growth boundary and open space. If elected, I will be an advocate for all Sonomans, including working families, seniors, and children. I have been endorsed by the Sierra Club, Sonoma County Conservation Action, Coalition For Better Sonoma County, and the Northbay Labor Council. For a more complete statement of my experience and platform and a list of my endorsements, please go to my website: www.barbose4council.com . Please vote for me for Sonoma City Council.
Steve Barbose

Veronica Jacobi for Santa Rosa City Council

Thank you very much for the Green Party endorsement! Please vote! We need you. Last time I only needed 553 more votes to win. We received over 21,500. The Green Party votes could make the difference this November, especially if you volunteer and put up a lawn sign and bumper sticker. Please contact volCoAnnH@yahoo.com or vjacobi@sonic.net or call 575-5594.
THANKS AGAIN!

Cat Woods for 6th Assembly District (Green Party Member)

Cat Woods for State Assembly, District 6 My campaign is about getting our values implemented in our world by making our electoral system more representative of the voters. Our values are MAJORITY values: peace (stop the war/s), single-payer health care, quality education, efficient and usable public transit, preservation of our Constitutional liberties. In a more representative system, these are the values you would seen enacted by our government. The combination of our current "plurality" system with widespread abdication to the Democratic Party and Republican Party machines that run this state has resulted in total betrayal of human values in favor of corporate profits. You can't change a system by playing into it year after year by doing what the "duopoly" wants you to do (vote for their candidates). You have to start voting for a better system -- for people whose goal is to change that system. To get more information or to help with or donate to my campaign, see http://www.catwoods.info. -Cat Woods 415-897-6989

Pamela Torliatt, Petaluma City Councilmember, Candidate for Mayor of Petaluma -

As the Senior Councilmember, it has been an honor representing Petaluma for the last 14 years. I have once again been endorsed by the Green Party of Sonoma County and I want to thank you for your support! We share the same values of protecting our environment, working for grassroots democracy, supporting local businesses and pursuing a peaceful way of settling disputes. As a fourth generation Petaluman, I am dedicated to preserving our quality of life in Petaluma and improving the world we live in. I would appreciate your vote on November 7, 2006. If you have any questions or would like to help with the campaign, please contact me at 763-6825 or www.vote4pam.net.

Tiffany Renée (Green Party Member) for Petaluma City Council -

I'm running for a City Council seat because I believe that currently allowed special interest development — creating low-end, medium and big box, retail jobs and housing most families cannot afford — doesn't support a healthy community. My vision for Petaluma’s future includes supporting:

  • A Living Wage and affordable living strategies
  • Promoting a balanced approach to youth development
  • Updating to smart, sustainable, Green building codes
  • Only approving sustainable development that doesn't negatively impact the flood plain or infrastructure (water resources)
  • Protecting our urban growth boundary
  • Attracting thriving businesses and retaining local dollars
  • As a CERT certified first responder, I'm advocating for necessary public safety resources for citizens, Fire, and Police Departments

Visit my campaign website - www.votefortiff.com - to learn more about me and read my campaign platform and blog (a new entry has been posted). While you're there, send me an email to let me know what your concerns are.
