GREEN PARTY COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

December 5 is the last day to file nomination papers to run for the
Green Party of Sonoma County Council, the seven-seat governing body
responsible for day-to-day operations of the county Green Party. All
seven seats will be up for election on the March primary ballot.

Strong candidates for the county council will include members of
diverse social and economic groups; people with unique skills,
experiences, expertise; and Greens with enthusiasm for growing the
party. Other minimum requirements also apply. This is an opportunity
for both leadership and service in the basic work of grassroots
political organizing. If you have an interest in how the party grows,
this is one important way to participate.

For more information contact the current county council at
cc@sonomagreenparty.org or the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters at

MATT GONZALEZ LEADS IN POLL AS CAMPAIGN MOVES FORWARD

A poll released on November 25th by KPIX shows that Matt Gonzalez has
widened his lead over Gavin Newsom, 52 to 45!:
http://beta.kpix.com/news/local/2003/11/25/Poll.html

Matt's campaign continues to pick up steam, momentum and support. Matt
has recently been endorsed by the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club,
the Sierra Club, San Francisco Tomorrow and SF League of Conservation
Voters.

His campaign has opened satellite offices in the Bay View/Hunter's
Point (a primarily African American community), Chinatown, and the
Sunset in addition to his newly expanded headquarters at 13th and
Mission streets in the Mission. His volunteer ranks have swelled,
along with his press coverage and recent poll numbers.

The Gonzalez campaign has enjoyed the strong support of Green Party
members across the state and throughout the US, Thank you all for your
encouragement and support. We need to keep up the pace for the final
weeks of the campaign.

GREEN BLOC: BUILDING PERMACULTURE GARDENS, CHALLENGING THE FTAA
A slide show and report-back from Miami by local Green Bloc Activists
December 2, 4, 10, 11 (see calendar below for times/locations)

Green Bloc, a group of Sonoma County activists, taught and
demonstrated permaculture-based gardening principles, wastewater
treatment, toxic bioremediation and other ecological solutions during
the FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) meeting in Miami on
November 19-21. By demonstrating ecologically sustainable methods and
technologies, Green Bloc is exposing the enormous and completely
unnecessary social, economic, and environmental damage caused by the
privatization policies of the FTAA.

This reportback and teach-in will include inspiring first-person
stories, slides, and materials from the eco-gardens and installations
and the anti-FTAA protests, and discussion of next steps in the
anti-globalization movement.
