GRAY DAVIS RECALL
As many of you will have heard, the recall of Governor Gray Davis will
be voted on in a special election Tuesday October 7. Candidates have
only until August 11 to file if they want to be on the ballot. If the
Democratic Party national leadership continues to insist on Democrats
staying out of the race, we can anticipate a field of candidates that
includes a few Republicans, candidates from each of the minor parties,
and those Democrats that can afford to break loyalty with the national
party. Peter Camejo, Green Party candidate in the recall, is working
with other progressives, including independent Ariana Huffington, to
determine the best strategy for keeping the Governorship out of
Republican hands. Since this is the first recall of a California
governor ever to make it to a vote, the implications are fairly new to
everyone. For updates about Green Candidate Peter Camejo, visit

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STRATEGY SESSION REPORT
Seventy organizers from throughout the Bay Area and North Coast
regions attended the Northern California Green Party Strategy Session
July 13 in Santa Rosa. Input from panelists Rebecca Kaplan, Dan
Hamburg, Laura Wells, and Peter Camejo, were well-received by those in
attendance. Addressing what was naturally on everyone's minds at the
time, David Cobb spoke as a member of the Presidential Exploratory
Committee in explaining his vision for running an aggressive
presidential race focused on building support for local races and
which results in getting Bush out of office.
Many people stayed for hours afterward for conversation outside the
venue. A North Bay Regional meeting was held at this time. Green Party
organizers present from Napa, Sonoma, and Marin Counties affirmed the
appointment of Deborah "Star" Richardson as our North Bay Regional
Representative. Deborah had been acting as representative since the
previous rep, Kate Taylor, moved out of the area, and will complete
the current term through September 2004. People at the meeting
expressed some interest in having another regional meeting, perhaps
toward the end of August, to work on regional issues and strategy.
